How old should a babysitter be?

How old should a babysitter be?           reply

Is it responsible/ legal to leave a 14 or 15 year old girl babysitting for a 10 month old baby? She has experience with younger siblings in her own family. The baby would be asleep so it would just be a case of her watching tv. Her own family live close by, in case there was an emergency that she couldn´t handle. If people do think that this would be a reasonable arrangement, what would be a reasonable hourly rate?

I dont know about legal, but I have a 20 year old son and an 18 year old daughter and I left them when they were babies with a neighbours daughter who was 15 at the time. I think once your baby is not unwell and her parents are close by and available just incase, then this is perfectly acceptable. Give it a go and you will know yourself if you are comfortable and if you feel she is.. After all its not worth your while going out if you cannot relax and enjoy. I would offer 7 euro an hour with a min payment of 20 euro per night.
Hope this helps
