Louise FeahenyGorey Community School           08/19/2009 04:53 PM - (share to everyone) ------------------- GCS is a fantastic school. When I started there in 2003, I heard many mixed opinions about it (as I had just moved up from Limerick I had not know much about it) I just completed my Leaving Cert and have to say that I could not fault the school. I received 500 points and got a place in NUI Maynooth. This was thanks to the fantastic teachers that I had when I was there. A huge amount of students received over 500 points this year, with 2 people receiving the maximum 600. The last 6 years have been hectic for me, aside from the education side of things. I have been involved in so many of the extra-curricular activities available. GCS has the most impressive TY of any school in the country, as well as a fantastic devotion to the arts. Every year, the Bene Merenti concert is held which is always a resounding success- awards are presented at the end for students with an outstanding contribution to the arts. Every second year, the school also produces a musical. Last year it was Les Miserabls. The show was sold out fot the entire week, with a standing ovation each night. I have to say if I had to make a choice as to where I was going to send my children to secondary school in the future, it would definitely be Gorey Community School. (ALthough I´m planning on emigrating to somewhere hot!) Thanks Mr Sweetman! The school is gonig to miss you on your retirement.
