How do we know school is good or bad ?

I am looking for a good school for my boy. I am really finding it hard to know whether the school is good or bad.  One parent told me their child was bullied by the local council kids in the school. I live in Dublin 1 area and very close to Dublin 2. If anybody can guide me with a good school it will be nice.
