The charity has linked up with the white board supplier on a nationwide campaign, so are working on a lower cost basis for suppling the boards. Basically every one benefits, The school gets a white board installed in an economic time where parents are under pressure to donate money to schools. Schools are put to the pin of their collar trying to come up with thousands of euro and this is a simple scheme to participate in.
JacK and Jill benefit form the monies made from the phones received. All makes and models of phones are acceptable, regardless of condition, some phones are refurbished and some are recycled. It is a great scheme.

Catherine. Will the campaign still be active after the school summer holidays as with such a short time left in the school year it might be hard to get everybody motivated in time to collect enough phones.

Seems like a great idea. I though though that Promeathean Interactive Whiteboards cost around 5,000 Euro so didn´t realise that old mobile phones were so valuable. Is there a stipulation that the phones have to be in good repair and have the chargers and other accessories??

This campaign is oficially being rolled out in September. we launched it prior to the holidays to generate interest in it amongst school communities so that parents, children and the general community can get active over the summer and spread the word in local press etc that their school will take any unused, unwanted, broken phones etc. There is no limit on:
a) The Length of time taken to collect the phones.
b)The number of boards a school may collect.

I hope this clarifies any issues. Please contact me with any further questions. Schools can register on www.phonesforboards.com or email me directly at catherine@jackandjill.ie.

Spread the word, it is a win win situation. Schools and charities benifiting from a scheme that is easy to operate and fundraising in terms of cash is not required,
Catherine.

Schools are asked to swap old mobile phones for interactive whiteboards

The Jack & Jill Foundation, through its partner Promethean, have launched a campaign where they are asking schools to swap 300 old mobile phones for a new interactive whiteboard and to raise much needed funds for home nursing care for sick children in the process. The offer also includes installation and training for participating schools who can sign up by visiting phonesforboards. This recycling initiative will assist schools to earn green flag status, with obvious benefits to the environment by preventing the pollution caused by putting old phones into landfills. It is estimated that there are over 10 million old phones in Irish households, just gathering dust and this is a very attractive deal for schools considering the high cost of whiteboards here.
For 300 old mobile phones participating schools can earn a 78 inch Promethean ActivBoard, complete with two ActivPens and the latest lesson development software, Activinspire, while 500 phones will earn the 78 inch whiteboard complete with a height-adjustable frame, super short-throw projector, speakers as well as the two ActivPens and the latest lesson development software, Activinspire.
According to Jonathan Irwin, CEO and Founder of the Jack & Jill Foundation, “This is a great deal for everyone and we’d like to put a new whiteboard into every classroom in Ireland while putting these old phones to good use, with 250 mobiles buying home nursing care for Jack & Jill children for one month. There’s no limit to the number of schools who can participate and there’s no time frame on this campaign and we’re hoping that lots of schools will sign up by September. We wanted to launch the campaign before the school holidays so that the children can get collecting over the summer.”
